" On the first day of filming Titanic, Leonardo DiCaprio walked into Kate Winslet’s dressing room to find her preparing for their nude scene, in the buff. Winslet tells PEOPLE: He saw me and went ‘Whooa!' and I said 'We’re going to spend the whole day like this; we might as well get over it now.’ That broke the ice.”

“We have a sort of language of our own, like a private secret language or something, and I was surprised at how present that was within our relationship, and it was just great to have the history that we have and the chemistry that we have, and being able to play these two characters, because there were no boundaries at all. We could do anything, try anything — never felt stupid. We feel so comfortable with each other and I know that…I would let Leo physically harm me if it meant that he had to do something for a scene, and I know that he would feel the same way. It is a very rare friendship that we have”-Kate

“She’s still as beautiful and radiant as she was the day I met her.”

When you develop sort of a friendship with somebody over the years, there’s just a trust factor there. We both know that we have the best intentions for each other, but we also know that we can sorta push each other’s limits.

Remembering Titanic during award season: The 55th Annual Golden Globe Awards (January 18, 1998)

Leo and I do have sort of an almost telepathic connection, because we’ve known each other for such a long time and have remained friends consistently over all of these years, I know how Leo thinks, I know how he works, as he does with me.

“Leo and I were literally straight on the tip (of the boat)… and they were adjusting the camera angle and Leo and I just hung on to each other for dear life. We had cigarettes hidden in the pockets of our costumes and the two of us literally were having conversations like,’What would happen if we died?’ and I’d say things like ‘Leo, I love you, I really do love you so much. You are a very important person to me and I’d have your babies. I would, I’d have your babies, really, it’s fine.”- KATE WINSLET

The sort of mutual respect that we had for each other before we started working together really did lend itself to the beginning of a great friendship because it was built on very strong foundations. It was nothing to do with fancying the other one, or any sort of flirting, or anything like that, that just never happened. And I think that’s part of the reason why the friendship has always been so sincere. We’ve just been very very lucky to have always had that and been able to hang on to it.
